Superelastic alloy based electrical interconnects for highly stretchable electronics

Abstract To achieve stretchable inorganic electronics, improving elastic stretchability of the electrical interconnects becomes a bottleneck needed to be addressed. Here, we propose material Ni-Ti superelastic alloy for design and fabrication deformable interconnects, whose intrinsic property overcomes low strain limit conventional metals. The serpentine interconnect made by with an ~7.5% represents much higher than Cu interconnect. deformation behavior is systematically investigated through finite element analysis (FEA) simulations experiments. results reveal that exhibits up 196%, its resistance only changes 0.4% 100% strain. Moreover, potentials challenges other alloys as are discussed. proposed fundamentally boost properties which would open opportunities flexible electronics.

Scissoring in thick bars suppresses buckling behavior in serpentine traces that have thicknesses greater than their widths, as detailed in a systematic set of analytical and experimental studies.
